Assembly acquires land for agriculture programme

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly, has acquired 5,000 hectares of land towards the implementation of the Youth in Agriculture Programme in the area. Already, more than 1,000 youth have registered for the programme that aimed at solving the unemployment problem. Mr Moses Kofi Armah, the District Chief Executive, told an ordinary meeting of the assembly at Bibiani that the youth would go into livestock, crop and vegetable farming as part of the programme. He announced that the assembly under the Community-Based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP), has entered into partnership with the Upper Amanfi and Sefwiman Rural Banks to create centres at Bibiani for training people in piggery and bakery and another at Adupri for tr5aining in bee-keeping. Mr Armah said the assembly had planned to establish an education fund to assist brilliant but needy students to complete school, build more classrooms and renovate old ones to help raise the quality of education in the area. He expressed worry that out of 28 murders recorded in the Western Region last year, 24 occurred in the district. Mr Armah said the assembly would encourage the formation of neighbourhood watch committees in every community to complement the work of the Police.
