Fireworks In SekondiTdi...As NPP Delegates Vote Today

Fireworks are expected in Takoradi, Effia-Kwesimintsim, Essikado-Ketan, Shama and Sekondi, the five constituencies in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis, today, as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds its regional delegates congress to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party. According to party insiders, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Takoradi constituency, Mrs. Gladys Asmah, who is currently inactive in politics, has been pushing grudgingly for her preferred candidates to lead the pack of new executives, who would form the core of the leadership of the party in the constituency. Sources say his team would be led by Mr. Frank Etti, a Takoradi based businessman and a member of NPP business wing, the Young Executive Forum (YEF). Ahead of the Saturdays election, tension is said to be mounting between the two camps and delegates in the constituency. In the Essikado-Ketan constituency, James Obeng, the Constituency Secretary, and Mr. Kwesi Yesterday, a Takoradi businessman, are also locking horns for the chairmanship position. Whilst in the Effia-Kwesimintsim constituency, Mr. Richard Adu-Addy is feverishly lacing his shoes to challenge the incumbent Constituency Chairman, Mr. T. Addo. Elsewhere in Sekondi, the Chronicle on Saturday gathered that the contest in the ancient town for the chairmanship position is between one Erasmus Baidoo, and another youthful party member, identified by sources as James, as the incumbent chairman is giving way to a new face. The constituency elections were supposed to begin yesterday in Essikado-Ketan and with Sekondi, today. Takoradi, Effia-Kwesimintsim and Shama, and some of the constituencies outside the metropolis in the region, would also follow suit. Vetting of the aspiring candidates for the elections started on Wednesday. This was confirmed by Naana Amoah, the Western Regional Womens Organiser of the party.
