Education Director Canes Teacher In Class For Lashing Class-Two Pupils

The Regional Director of Education in the Western Region has lashed a class-two female teacher for equally whipping some of her pupils who showed up in class late to write examination on Wednesday.

The teacher [name withheld], of Well Rose Methodist School at Sekondi, was said to have caned the class-two pupils who were late to school, in front of the classroom where she gave them lashes in their palm.

Sources say the Regional Director of Education, Enyonam Afi Amefugah, whose office is adjacent the school, was driving by the school to his office when he spotted the teacher caning the pupils.

Mr Amefugah who was not happy, consequently stopped and went into the classroom to question the teacher of her actions after which he was said to have taken the cane and lashed the teacher for her action. But the reaction of the Director is said to have angered some teachers and the Ghana National Association of Teachers in the region who lodged a complaint with the appropriate authorities.

Meanwhile, speaking on Connect FM Thursday, the Local Manager for Methodist Schools, Very Rev. Emmanuel Kwesi Arhin has assured that the matter is being investigated.
