Residents of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) flats at Adentan have expressed worry over what they described as the growing number of squatter camps, kiosks and container shops springing up along the streets and within the flats.
“What is even more worrying is the number of drinking bars situated close to the Adentan Community School and which has become a haven for all manner of people trouping in at all periods of the day ,only God knows the fate of our children in the future” they remarked.
The residents brought this to the fore during the first quarter public Forum organized by the Adentan Municipal Assembly.
The event which was under the theme “Annual Budget Performance Reporting” was held at the Community Senior High School at Frafraha lately.
The Municipal Roads Engineer, Ing. Emmanuel Salifu Asubay disclosed that about 127 kms of roads out of the entire road network of 600 km within the municipality has been paved.
He, however, assured that once government fulfils its payment of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) progress of work among other things was bound to be expedited.
According to Assistant Budget Analyst, Mary Acquah, the Assembly’s effort to meet its revenue targets fell below expectation.
The Assistant Budget Analyst stated that for Internally Generated Funds(IGF),the Assembly targeted GH¢6,042,083 but only received GH¢5,405,618.07 while funds from the Central Government was GH¢4,650,509.44 instead of GH¢7,372,036.79, representing 63.08%.
She explained that in 2017, tighter measures will be put in place to ensure that the assembly gets a lot from IGF hoping also that both government and donor agencies will as well keep to their timelines.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) Moira Ewa announced the introduction of a mushroom project being embarked upon by the assembly as part of efforts to raise IGF as well as create employment opportunities for the people.
