An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000.00 with one surety to one Musah Mahmud, who is facing charges for alleged possession of narcotic drugs.
He is to report to the Criminal Investigations Department every Friday.
The 23-year old, was on October 6, 2016 discharged by the same court for want of prosecution.
He was however re-arrested by the Police and charged for supply of 46 wrappers of rocky substances weighing 2.2922g, 45 wrappers of powdery substance weighing 5.9430g, 31 wrappers of dried leaves weighing 59.47g, and quantity of similar leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
He pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail by the Court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, to reappear on April 24. Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Amega, told the Court that on December 9, 2015, at about 1900 hours, the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the CID Headquarters carried out an anti-narcotic drug operation.
He said the exercise was conducted within the Accra Metropolis to clamp down on the activities narcotic peddlers. He said the team, acting upon intelligence, visited a notorious narcotic drug peddling spot, located at Abollo Park, Accra New Town, and met the accused person and some others sitting on a bench.
The prosecution said upon seeing the Police, Musah attempted to escape but he was arrested, and a small blue-black waist bag he was holding was retrieved from him.
The prosecution told the Court that a search conducted in the bag and his pocket revealed the above listed items. DSP Amega said during interrogation, and in his caution statement, Musah claimed ownership of the exhibits and explained said he had been in the narcotic drug business for about three months.
He said the exhibits were sent for examination and the report received certified they tested for cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
On March 38, advice from the Attorney Generals Department was received by the police to charge the suspect for supply of narcotic drug without lawful authority.
