Agbogbloshie Market Under Tight Security

Security is still tight with a heavy Police cum Military presence at the Agbogbloshie Yam Market following Tuesday’s bloody clashes that led to the death of two people.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the site on Wednesday there were fully armed security officers around the conflict area to avert any further clashes.

The GNA also observed that life was returning to normal with traders going about their businesses without fear.
Some of the market women, who spoke to the GNA, called for calm between the two factions saying; “We travelled from our hometowns to trade in Accra and make money to cater for our children and families so the two groups should let peace rein and not destroy our property.

Auntie Joyce, a tomato seller, pleaded that the police and military should continue to safeguard the place to ensure peace and security.

It would be recalled that two people died on the spot when two factions clashed at the Agbogbloshie Yam Market in Accra on Tuesday over an alleged phone theft.

As at 1730 hours business had come to a halt as most of the people, mostly traders, had deserted the zone to avoid any attacks.
