‘It Is Important To Celebrate Easter’- Rev Opuni-Frimpong

The Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana has said the celebration of Easter by churches all over the world helps the membership to remember what Jesus Christ did by sacrificing his life.

“We do it in expectation to recollect, anticipate and participate in the blessings of his sacrifice, death and resurrection. In the Bible, Christ himself turned the festival of Passover celebrated by the Jews into what we are celebrating now”, Rev Opuni-Frimpong explained.

He said God made the love, salvation and forgiveness humankind needs through Jesus who is the mediator between God and the human race.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Accra, Rev Opuni-Frimpong said Jesus offered himself as the Passover lamb, which was sacrificed for the sake of all people and that all those who accepted the offer would have the salvation and the benefits through the grace of God.

He said during the period of Easter, the salvation and grace of God were preached to all people so that those who have not yet accepted Christ would do so and enjoy the offer of God’s plan for forgiveness, salvation and redemption.

He noted however that as people accepted the offer of salvation, they must strive to be obedient and responsible with their lives.

“Yes we have been saved, but we are advised not to deliberately sin- we must glorify God by our actions and through our actions”, he admonished.

He stated that as Philippians 2:5 indicated, all must allow the mind in Christ to dwell in them, saying grace was not a cheap thing and that Jesus paid a greater price with his life for the grace and so “we should work at our salvation”.

“Grace does not make us irresponsible but we have to work out our salvation through our actions”, Rev Opuni-Frimpong said.
