Prosecute Corrupt Officials – Obomeng Chief Tells Nana

Nana Effah Opinamang III, chief of Obomeng in the Kwahu Traditional Area of the Eastern Region, has tasked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to arrest and prosecute any government official who milks the state to serve as deterrent to others.

The Obomenghene underscored, “Mr. President, you promised to fight against corruption during the campaign time; now you have the power, arrest and punish anybody who will steal state money in your administration. Don’t spare anyone because Ghanaians are watching you.” Nana Opinamang made the charge when the president joined the chiefs and people of Obomeng at a grand durbar to climax his (Nana Opinamang’s) coronation at the weekend.

The traditional ruler publicly declared the release of a 200-acre parcel of land to be developed into a free zone enclave for investors.

The Obomeng chief also appealed to the president to do everything in his power to bring a lasting solution to the destruction of food crops and water bodies by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle in the area.

President Akufo-Addo said his determination to fearlessly fight corruption is hastening his administration’s resolve to set up the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

According to him, all cases of corruption and misappropriation of public funds would be independently and thoroughly investigated for the law to take its course, adding that his government would tackle financial leakages and waste which he believes will go a long way to generate resources for development.

President Akufo Addo used the occasion to appeal to residents in the area to solidly back the fight against illegal mining so as to curb the destruction of the environment and pollution of water bodies.

He reiterated his government’s intention to support the private sector to become more vibrant and invited local businesses to take advantage of the deliberate policies and interventions the government is putting in place.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also told the people of Kwahu not to worry about developmental projects since his government has programmed some ambitious projects that will help transform their lives.

He said his administration’s elaborate plans would make Kwahu one of the most vibrant local economies in the country.

The president said his government would construct a bridge across the River Afram to link Ekye-Amanfrom to Adawso to attract investors.

The cultivation of coffee which in recent times has been experiencing some challenges as a result of lack of funding, the president assured, would be revived under the “Planting for food and jobs” programme being spearheaded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

The issue of Fulani herdsmen which has become a thorn in the flesh of those living in the Sekyere Afram Plains area, especially, Agogo and Kwahu, according to President Akufo-Addo, would be addressed holistically.

“We are going to find a proper cattle ranching policy to bring a lasting solution to the Fulani herdsmen menace,” he asserted.
