Marwako ‘Pepper Manager’ Opens Defence Today

Jihad Chaaban, the embattled Marwako Restaurant Abelemkpe branch manager standing trial for allegedly assaulting a female employee of the eatery, is expected to open his defence today.

The accused person, who had insisted on his innocence as far as the purported act is concerned, is to tell the court the circumstances leading to the supposed assault on the victim, Evelyn Boakye.

The order by the court, presided over by Ms Victoria Ghansah, followed a ruling last week that a prima facie case had been made against Jihad.

Earlier, lawyers for Jihad had served notice of filing for no case because they claimed their client had no case to answer, contrary to the position of the court.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Amah Hanson, closed its case on Monday after the investigator, Detective Inspector Eunice Ashiagbor, took her turn to testify in the case as the fourth prosecution witness.

She corroborated the evidence of the last three prosecution witnesses namely, Evelyn, Susan Dovlo and Yaw Asiedu (the security guard on duty on the day of the incident).

Jihad, 26, is reported to have dipped the head of Evelyn into blended pepper on February 26, 2017.

According to the prosecution, the accused offensively conducted himself when he angrily called the complainant a ‘prostitute.’

Jihad is facing an additional charge of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to Evelyn.

Jihad, a Lebanese supervisor at Marwako Restaurant, was put before the court for allegedly manhandling the female waitress of the restaurant.

The accused, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is a brother in-law of the owner of the restaurant at the Abelemkpe branch.
