Legon Student Drowns In Swimming Pool

A Level 400 student of the University of Ghana (UG), Legon, Accra, last Saturday got drowned while swimming in the institution’s swimming pool.

The deceased, identified as Dennis Akoto, 22 years old doing Economics and Information Studies, reportedly went to the pool side for relaxation when the incident occurred at about 7:00 pm.

He is said to have celebrated his 22nd birthday last week Monday.

The body has been deposited at the Legon Hospital for preservation while the Legon police investigate the matter.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE,, ASP Efia Tenge, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the police received the report at about 8:00 pm Saturday.

The report indicated that Dennis Akoto, who resided in room No. 151, Jean Nelson Hall, got drowned at the poolside and was rushed to the hospital where he was clinically pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, one Kofi Odoom, a floor mate and friend of Denis who was also present at the pool side, described his pal’s death as strange, saying Dennis was a good swimmer and very cautious.
