He said “this will bring an increase in the production of goods and services and thereby benefit all of us and not just a few.”

Mr Saeed said this when he addressed this year’s May Day celebrations at the Jubilee Park in Tamale on Monday.

The event, held under the theme: “Ghana at 60: Mobilising for Future through the Creation of Decent Jobs”, was attended by members of various worker unions in the region, who matched with placards with various inscriptions calling for improved conditions of service.

Mr Saeed said “Government acknowledges that there are fundamental challenges relating to low salaries, poor retirement packages, lack of housing and poor social security all of which do not provide the required incentive to boost your morale.”

He said despite these conditions, it is important for workers to give off their best because the country relied on them for her continuous development.

He said the government was working to revive the economy to make life better for workers and the entire citizenry and commended workers for their sacrifice and hard work they make to keep the country running.

Mr Ibrahim Adam Sullo, Northern Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, called on government to work to revitalise major sectors of the economy to create jobs for the people.

He expressed unhappiness with the abuse of workers’ rights by some local and foreign entities and called for a discussion between organised labour and government on issues affecting labour.
