MP Hits Speaker Car

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region, Ernest Kofi Yakah, yesterday morning rammed his car into the official vehicle of the Speaker of Parliament, Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo. The accident, Daily Guide gathered, occurred around 9:00am when the Speaker was on her way to Parliament in a motorcade for the business of the House. According to information gathered by the paper, the New Edubiase MP, Mr Yakah, attempted to avoid hitting another vehicle in front of him when he heard a siren from the Speakers convoy, and in the process, he bumped into the car of the third most important personality of the land. Jones Kugbelnu, Director of Public Affairs in Parliament, told Daily Guide that although Mrs. Bamford Addos car suffered a dent, she did not sustain any injury, adding the Speaker was actually in the House to chair the business of the day. Madam Speaker is a strong person; but of course, as human as she is, she would naturally feel traumatized. But as I said, that has not affected her in conducting the business of the House, the Director of Public Affairs indicated. Mr. Kugblenu however noted that even though the accident was not serious, Mrs. Bamford-Addo might have to be examined by a doctor. The police, he said, would take up the matter for further investigations, as it is within their domain to do so in accident cases. Meanwhile, the MP in the thick of affairs was not sighted in Parliament yesterday although he was reportedly unscathed in the accident.
