Farmer In Court For Destroying A Fence

The Asamankese circuit court on Wednesday granted a GHC 400 bail to Solomon Osei Sarkodie, a farmer, charged with destroying a fence. He pleaded guilty with explanation and will reappear on November 16. Two others who conspired with him and destroyed the fence valued at GHC 25 are on the run. Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Abass Antwi, and the accused lived at Ekoso Number Two near Akyem Osenase. She said Sarkodie inherited Antwi's father after his death when the latter was very young. The prosecutor said when Mr Antwi grew up and realized that his father's property were in the custody of Sarkodie he demanded a portion of a cocoa farm to work on. That request brought about misunderstanding between Sarkodie and Antwi resulting in the two being at logger heads. On August 25, at about 1630 hours, Antwi returned from farm and found that a fence around his house had been pulled down. He enquired from his wife what had happened and she said it was the accused and others that caused the damage. A report was made to the police and Sarkodie was arrested but his accomplices escaped.
