The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has debunked media reports that the Kwesi Botchwey committee report is ready.
The 13-member committee led by former Finance Minister Dr Kwesi Botchwey was set up by the NDC to look into the factors that led to its defeat in the 2016 polls.
A Daily Guide report on 9 May said the 67-page report had “emphatically blamed President John Mahama, the NDC leader, for the party’s defeat, with recommendations that he should not be allowed to lead the party in 2020”.
But reacting to this on Asempa FM, Mr Nketia asked the public to disregard any reportage that the committee had completed its work and had written its report. According to him, no such report had been written.
“Some radio stations called to ask me that they’ve heard about a 67-page report and ‘this and that’ is in the report but I want to say it’s not true. The committee hasn’t written any report for anybody to know if it will be a 100-page or a 70-page report,” he told show host Kojo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA).
He added that the committee does not have the mandate to recommend who should be allowed to contest the NDC’s flagbearership and so such assertions that the committee recommended that Mr Mahama be not allowed to contest was completely false.
Mr Nketia said the committee would finish its work and present its report by the end of May.
