Mobile Phone Thief Lynched In Kumasi

Another man believed to be in his 40s has been killed in Kumasi under similar circumstances by a mob even though Ghanaians have not come to terms with the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama.

The deceased, whose identity was not known, is suspected to have been killed by an angry mob over suspicion that he had stolen a mobile phone.

Eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that residents of Mbrom, near Ash Town, woke up to see the deceased lying in a supine position in a pool of blood on Thursday morning.

According to them, there were marks, especially around his neck, which indicated that the man was murdered by some fiendish people, who have since absconded.

The matter was reported to the police who have since transported to body to the morgue pending autopsy.

Briefing a section of the press, the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt Kwaku Boah, said police got information that a certain man accused of stealing a mobile phone had been lynched at Mbrom.

He said the police quickly rushed to the crime scene and saw a man in his 40s lying in a pool of blood.

Chief Supt Kwaku Boah, who had been at post for just three weeks, disclosed that this current death brings to two the number of people that have been murdered by a mob at the same spot over stealing.

He strongly condemned the rise in cases of mob justice at Mbrom, warning that the probability of an innocent person being killed by a mob is high so the public must respect the law.

The Police Chief admonished the public to have confidence in the police and the court system, stressing that the suspects should always be reported to the police for the law to take its course.
