Ahafo Youth And Chiefs Strengthen Call For Creation Of Ahafo Region

Despite President Nana Akufo-Addo's promise that the processes leading up to the creation of the Ahafo region would be completed within 16 months, the Council of Ahafo Chiefs together with the Ahafo Development Association (ADA) have appealed to him to quicken the steps to creating for them the region.

According to them, the new Region when created would enhance the decentralisation process of the country, and strengthen the participation of the grassroots in democracy and enhance good administration.

In a press conference at Bechem in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, on Tuesday, Nana Yaw Adu Baah Ansah, the president of the Council of Ahafo Chiefs who doubles as the chief of Yamfo revealed the call for the creation of the new region began thirty five years ago, and there was no way they would relent on their oars to get it done.

Nana Baah Ansah reiterated the new region would fast-track infrastructure development in the area when created.

"This is not about politics. Also, we don't have any issue against anybody in our current region as we embark on this journey," he said, downplaying speculations that they had issues with the Bono people.

The President of the Ahafo Development Association (ADA), Yaw Owusu Brempong, thanked the president for his commitment to the creation of the Ahafo Region and reiterated they have the resources to support the new Ahafo Region.

"We have started talking to the people of Ahafo across the country on the need for them to support us to get this region."

Mr. Brempong further called on the chiefs, youth and all Ahafo citizens to cooperate with government as they go through the constitutional processes.

Present at the programme were all chiefs and queen mothers in the Ahafo area.
