Tourism Minister Wasn’t Forthright On Invincible Forces Role In Kintampo Falls Disaster

The former Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary Education, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described the response of the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Catherine Afeku as an insult to the intelligence of the Minority in Parliament.

According to him, the Minority in Parliament felt insulted when Hon. Catherine Afeku deliberately denied that the untrained tour guides were pro-New Patriotic Party group, Invincible Forces in the gory accident by the storm at the Kintampo waterfalls.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu revealed that some of the members of the Invincible Forces admitted taking over the waterfalls and sharing the proceeds with the NPP Regional Executives.

“She said if they were Invincible Forces then they are invisible so she didn’t see them on her visit to the accident scene. We the Minority are not satisfied with the response because after the incident the Chief of Kintampo said the Invisible Forces took over after the elections,” he averred.

“Nana Obiri Boahen admitted that the NPP Invincible Forces took over after the elections and there is nothing wrong with it. The members of Invincible Forces in Kintampo also admitted taking over the waterfalls and sharing the proceeds with the Regional Executives”, he revealed.

But the Minister, Catherine Afeku, stated on the floor of Parliament that the Municipal Assembly was firmly in control of the tourist site.

He however emphasized that “I thought the Minister insulted our intelligence with her response that it was the Municipal Assembly that was in-charge of the Kintampo waterfalls and she doesn’t know any Invincible Forces which has taken over the waterfalls.”

“She was not forthright on this issue. We shouldn’t take this matter lightly because all these 20 young people had bright future before death snatched them away. It is not good to whitewash and cover up for the Invincible Forces,” he slammed.
