Embrace Agricultural Programme - Youth advised

The East Akim Municipal Information Officer, Mr Maxwell Apeacorang, has advised the youth who would be included in the Youth and Agriculture Programme (YEP) to use it as an opportunity to transform their lives. He, therefore, urged them to consider the project as a stepping stone towards developing into large-scale commercial farmers. Mr Apeacorang was speaking at Kyebi-Apapam as part of a seven-day Public Education Programme on Government Policies for the communities in the East Akim Municipality, at the weekend. He explained that under YEP, beneficiaries would be given some basic training in farming and entrepreneurial skills, then be provided with some inputs and they would also be assured of guaranteed prices and market for their produce. The Municipal Information Officer urged those interested in the programme to organize themselves into groups of five to enable them to easily benefit from the package. He advised them to also contact the Municipal YEP Co-ordinator at the Municipal Assembly at Kyebi for consideration. Mr Apeacorang said the government had increased the Capitation Grant from GHC 3.00 to GH4.50 and advised parents to take advantage of the programme and send their children to school. He urged those engaged in illegal mining of gold in the Municipality to regularize their trade as small scale gold mining companies so that the government could offer them some training and support to be able to do their mining more safely to reduce the disasters associated with illegal mining. Similar public education programmes have been organized in over 30 communities within the Municipality including, Kyebi, Kyebi-Adukrom and Kyebi-Akwadum
