Man Fined GH¢1,440 For Using Pan Latrine

The La District Magistrate Court has fined Alhaji Musbau GH¢1,440 for using pan latrine, in default, he will serve 12 months in prison.

The court presided by Mrs Juliet Osei-Duedu granted the convict GH¢10,000 bail with a surety to be justified.

Alhaji Musbau was also ordered to construct a befitting toilet within three months, failure to comply with the directive would attract a GH¢500 fine each day, counting from the day the order was given.

The prosecutor, Mr. Edward Nii Ayi Okai official of the Adjabeng Metro Public Health of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in-charge of Compliance, Standards and Enforcement, said the conduct of Alhaji Musbua was contrary to section 56(a) and (b) of Act, 2012 Public Health Act 851.

He said on June 20, 2017, environmental health officers on inspection at Nima in the Ayawaso Sub-metro, found that the convict and others, who were occupants of the same house, had exposed accumulated human excreta to flies.

Nii Ayi Okai said notice was served on the accused to clear the nuisance within 30 days but the order was flouted.

The Compliance, Standards and Enforcement officer said on August 16, personnel of the Metro Public Health found during inspection that Alhaji Musbau had not complied by the directive.

The Ghanaian Times gathered that the convict had satisfied the bail conditions and paid the fine.
