Former MCE appeals to government

Alhaji Ishak Abubakar Bonsu, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North, has appealed to the government to develop effective and efficient strategies to generate funds locally for national development. This, he said, would enable Ghana to become less dependent on foreign aid and chart its own development agenda without the interference from outside. Alhaji Bonsu made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akrodiein the municipality. He told the GNA in an interview "it is unacceptable that the government should always go round the globe and virtually beg for financial support for development as it is time the tax net is widened to cover all income earners, especially those in the private sector." "Those developed countries that give loans and grants raise the monies through the taxes their citizens pay," Alhaji Bonsu said and urged Ghanaians to pay their taxes. The former MCE stressed the need for Ghanaians to show interest in the governance of the country by offering constructive criticisms on government policies and programmes. "There is the need for all Ghanaians to assist in making democratic institutions function effectively so that they would play their roles in consolidating the country's democracy," Alhaji Bonsu said.
