SDA Church clears filth

The Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) at the weekend cleared filth at the Kaneshie Police Station with a call on Christians to undertake regular cleanup exercises, to avoid communicable diseases. Pastor Daniel Dei, Head of the Accra West Central District of the church, led about 200 members to undertake the four hour exercise, which comprise desilting of drains and sweeping of the surroundings of the Police Station. He said the exercise was part of an awareness creation of the church on sanitation to mark the 125th anniversary of the mission. As part of the anniversary, SDA would embark on a Health Week to sensitise its members on diseases that are acquired through unhygienic conditions. Pastor Dei expressed worry about the low communal spirit among Christians, which he said was not the way to eradicate diseases. The Health Co-ordinator of the Church, Elder Asare Asante Bediako, stressed the need for churches to encourage their members to attach special importance to environmental sanitation in order to reduce the outbreak of diseases. Elder Bediako said Christians should endeavour to mobilise the people to offer periodic communal labour in their communities to improve sanitation. Mrs Pricilla Mercy Nketsia Akromah, official of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly expressed gratitude to ZoomLion Company, sanitation service provider for offering the tools to undertake the exercise. Chief Inspector Samuel Amoani, Station Officer thanked the church members for organising the cleanup exercise, which he said was a wake up call to the police and their families.
