B-BOVID CEO Named 2016 Chamber Businessman

Chief Executive Officer of B-BOVID, a Ghanaian innovative agricultural business based in Pretsir in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, has been crowned the Chamber Businessman of the year 2016, at maiden Chamber Business Awards by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Awards.

B-BOVID was also recognized as the Innovative Agribusiness Company (Primary) of the year 2016.

Mr. Ouedrago was decorated by the President and presented with a citation, a portion of which read “Your passion towards self-empowerment and self-fulfilment drove you to set up a company, B-BOVID, through which you have touched and transformed many lives in the agro-sector.”

The maiden awards ceremony held at the State Banquet was to celebrate the finest of businesses that have demonstrated excellence in leadership and innovation in contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Ouedraogo, the 2013 Western Region Best Farmer, in a Facebook post, expressed the company’s sincere appreciation to Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCC) for the recognition.

“We are truly humbled and honoured to receive these awards since it is an affirmation of the unique Social Inclusive Model underpinning our work. To all our staff, you have always been there for us through every step on the bumpy road. We say thank you. You have been passionate and selfless and we are very grateful” he said.

The awards ceremony, on the theme: ‘Enterprises in Transition: Recognising Innovative Businesses in Ghana,’had President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Guest of Honour, who encouraged stakeholders in the private sector to utilise fully the novel Public Private Dialogue Platform being introduced by his government to address issues of mutual concern in achieving the industrial transformation agenda of the country.

“Creating wealth and prosperity for the vast majority of our people is a shared responsibility. My government is a listening one, and I encourage stakeholders to utilise the Public Private Dialogue Platform being introduced by my government to address issues of mutual concerns in achieving the industrial transformation of the country”, the President said.

The awards comprised 16 categories including manufacturing, logistics, guest accommodation, banks, mining, oil and gas, and professional services.

B-BOVID promotes sound agricultural practices and ecological farming, and offers training to farmers on variety of improved agricultural methods.

It also organizes community outreach programmes to encourage small holder farmers to adopt modern technology, promotes healthy lifestyles and nutrition, and educates farming communities on the impact of climate change and land degradation.

Currently, the World Bank has selected B-BOVID as one of the model farms in the country to be promoted as the ideal farming model that other farmers could tap in to empower themselves and change their fortunes.

B-BOVID wins prestigious UN award

B-BOVID’s model has received several commendations locally and internationally, including the United Nations (UN). In 2012, B-BOVID, won the UN’s Social Investment Pioneer Award along with nine other businesses from around the world.

The awards were given in recognition of the companies’ outstanding contributions to local community development. The awards are the initiative of the Principles for Social Investment Secretariat and the United Nations Global Compact.
