Nana Storm Manhyia

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to lead a high powered delegation to mourn the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II today.

The grand two-week funeral of the late Asantehema officially started on Friday, 1st December, 2017.

Some world leaders are expected to travel to the Manhyia Palace to mourn the death of the Asantehema in the coming days.

President Akufo-Addo would storm the palace and console the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu II on behalf of government and people of Ghana.

Sources at the Manhyia Palace disclosed that today’s ceremony would be impressive because the first gentleman of the land would join Asanteman to mourn the death of the Asantehema.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo also led similar government delegation to the Manhyia Palace some few months ago during the burial of the late Asantehemaa, who died at the age of 111.

Otumfuo Fires Musketry

The rich Asante culture and traditions, which date several centuries, would be on display at the venue.

According to sources, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II would fire gunshot to show to the entire world that he and Asanteman are mourning.

The Asantehene would be dressed in ‘Batakari Kesee,’ which literally means the ‘big smock’ and carried in a palanquin at the Pampamso area in Adum, the city center.

From Pampaso, the Asantehene and his chiefs, elders, servants and mourners, would go through the principal streets of Kumasi.

The day’s activities would be climaxed with a durbar in the bush behind the Manhyia Palace where the Asantehene would fire a symbolic gunshot.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II reigned for 39 years before she joined her ancestors after a short illness.

She has since been succeeded by Nana Ama Konadu II.
