Tension In Bimbilla

The regent of Bimbilla, Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, has cancelled this year’s Damba festival upon an order from the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), banning drumming and dancing in the area.

Information gathered by Daily Guide indicates that a combined team of military and police has been deployed to the area.

Following the burial of the late Bimbilla Naa, REGSEC issued a statement banning drumming and dancing at Bimbilla.

However, as the Damba festival is fast approaching, drumming and dancing activities have been heard from the family of the Nakpa Naa, contrary to the order of REGSEC.

According to Nyelinboligu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, he was calling off this year’s festival to ensure peace and the security of the people in accordance with the REGSEC order.

The regent has urged all Nanumbas to remain calm and keep to the positive development of the kingdom.

It will be recalled that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, warned Bimbilla residents not to engage in any act that would disturb the peace of the area.

According to him, for far too long, free movement had been restricted and that had hampered economic activities and growth.
