Free SHS Will Win Akufo-Addo 400,000 Votes In 2020 – Karbo Predicts

Deputy Transport Minister, Anthony Karbo has predicted that President Akufo-Addo will record 400,000 more votes in addition to the 5,716,026 valid votes that he polled in the 2016 elections.

This large number, he inferred will be coming from parents, students and other beneficiaries of the government’s flagship policy, the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

“Add 400,000 to the votes we received in 2016 because by 2020, the number of students that will be in school will be 1.2 million and do you think those children will vote for NDC that will come and cancel the Free SHS policy?”, he quizzed.

Nana Addo polled 5,716,026 valid votes representing 53.85% in the 2016 to beat incumbent President John Mahama who managed 4,713, 277 which represented 44.4%.

The weight of the defeat sent shivers down the spine of then President Mahama, his appointees, leadership as well as supporters of the NDC.

Speaking to Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Thursday, Anthony Karbo called on the NDC to get ready for a greater and bigger defeat in the 2020 elections as according to him, President Akufo-Addo will record an astronomical increase in votes.

The increase, he claimed will come from beneficiaries of policies such as Free SHS and other policies yet to be rolled out by the government.

President Akufo-Addo had claimed that the policy implemented in September 2017 has benefited close to a 100,000 students.

This number is expected to increase in subsequent years and by 2020, SHS will be entirely free.

The Lawra MP, Karbo claimed that parents, students and other beneficiaries of the policy will vote massively for President Akufo-Addo as part of efforts to say ‘thank you’ to the President.

He further said that the school children and other beneficiaries will write a ‘love letter’ after coming face to face with the pictures of Nana Addo and anyone the NDC will present as its candidate for the 2020 elections.

“During elections, these children will look at the picture of Nana Addo who has come to help them and that of the Onaapo people who would come and cancel the Free SHS programme; which direction do you think these children will vote towards? That is the day the children will write a love letter to the Onaapo people,” he said.
