Reports reaching PEACEFMONLINE say the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC), has been gutted by fire. Though the cause of the conflagration and extent of destruction is yet to be determined, several millions worth of property is believed to have been destroyed.
According to sources, four offices in the Main Ridge Building of the EC, close to the Ridge Hospital, are said to have caught fire a few minutes after midday, although not simultaneously.
The office of the Deputy Chairman of the EC, the office of the Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), which shares an office block on the EC compound, together with the Accounts and the Administration offices of the EC, were are all said to have caught fire in the 4-storey office complex.
The office of the Chairman of the EC, however, remains intact.
According to reports, some of the valuable items lost in the fire outbreak include computers and accessories, laptops and some amount of money.
