Bawumia Visits KUMACA Today…

Vice President,  Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has allayed fears of parents and students of the Kumasi Academy Senior High School over a possible spread of the deadly Influenza H1N1 209 which has killed about eight students this year.

Dr. Bawumia who’s expected to visit the school later today said in a statement, that the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service have put in place adequate measures to contain the situation.

“I know that parents and other schools are getting nervous about the possibility of further outbreak of the swine flu in their respective schools. I will like to assure the public of government’s resolve to continue to reveal and strengthen measures to prevent the spread of H1N1 flu around the country and keep our schools safe,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Dr. Bawumia also commiserated with the families of the deceased students who lost their lives through the outbreak of the deadly swine flu, while he wished those on admission a speedy recovery.

“On behalf of the President and the government and the people of Ghana, I wish to express my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families, teachers, students and the friends of Kumasi Academy Senior High School, who have been affected by the H1N1 virus. My heart goes out to the families of the four promising students who have lost their lives through the outbreak of the swine flu. May the souls of the departed students rest in perfect peace. I wish those admitted in hospitals a speedy recovery,” the statement said

Four students of KUMACA have died this month from what has been found to be Swine flu.

The Minister of Health Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has confirmed that the unexplained deaths that has hit KUMACA were caused by a respiratory illness known as Influenza H1N1 209.

Addressing the media Thursday, the Health Minister disclosed that 19 tests conducted by the Nogouchi Memorial Institute confirmed Influenza H1N1 209 as the cause of the deaths and not meningitis as earlier suspected.
