Court slabs GH�400 fine on a driver

A 26-year-old taxi driver who stole a sheep, valued at GH�60 and belonging to an electronic technician, has been sentenced to a fine of GH�400 by a magistrate court at Akim Oda. The driver, Michael Kofi Owusu, would serve 18 months in prison in default. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing. Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah told the court that Mr Mohammed Sani's got missing on June 21. Three days later, when Mr Sani was going to the market area, he spotted Owusu with a sheep on his shoulder and identified it as his own. He approached the convict, expressed interest in buying the animal and convinced Owusu to follow him (Mr Sani) to his house for bargaining and payment. After settling on GH�30, Mr Sani convinced Owusu to go home and return the following day to collect the money and was arrested when he came the next day for the money.
