AMA boss to form Armwrestling club in Odododiodio constituency

Mr. Mohammed Adjei-Sowah, Chief Executive of Officer of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has said his outfit, would form and fund the first Armwrestling Club in the Odododiodoo Constituency.

Mr. Adjei-Sowah, made this known when the leadership of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) called on him at his office in Accra.

The visit, was to formally inform him of Ghana’s hosting of the 2018 Africa Armwrestling Championship in July.

The Mayor, who was decorated with an International Armwrestling medal in response to the request for him to be a patron told the media that “I will form and fund an Armwrestling Club, sine there are African Champions in my constituency who belong to other clubs. I will be responsible for their training and equipment”.

Mr. Adjei-Sowah said, he’s happy to know that Armwrestling in a single championship won 22 medals for Ghana which an entire Olympic or Commonwealth team could not.

“We must not over rely on Football, Boxing and Athletics, but pay equal attention to other disciplines that have the potential to put Ghana on the World Map and consider the health, economic, tourism and other benefits,” he stated.

He said his office will champion sports mainly due to the health benefits and also use it as a medium to brand the city as well as attract tourists.

He pledged his personal support and that of his office to the promotion and development of the sport and also assist with the hosting of the Africa Armwrestling Championship.

Mr. Adjei-Sowah noted that the championship would serve as a platform for the AMA to showcase the rich culture of Accra and also make known the various tourist sites in the capital.

He further urged corporate Ghana to invest in sports development and promotion as he’s taken to do for Swimming, Basketball, Boxing and Armwrestling.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation would next week formally launch the hosting of the 9th Africa Armwrestling Championship in Accra, 2018 where about 15 Countries are expected to participate.
