Court Remands Farmer Over Hard Drug

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Yusif Assibey, has ordered a 56-year farmer caught with large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, to be held in remand prison.

Yaw Antwi has been charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and he pleaded not guilty.

He would be making his next appearance on Wednesday, January 31.

Police Detective Sergeant Princeton Peasah Darkwa told the court that the accused was seized together with the psychoactive drug on January 07, at about 2000 hours, at Kurofa in the Asante-Akim Municipality.

The police received information that he was engaged in drug peddling and moved in to arrest him.

The prosecution said a search conducted in his room uncovered large quantity of the dried leaves and he claimed that it was for his personal use.

He told investigators that he had been buying the stuff from a village called Brentuo but would not lead them to his supplier.
