Work to begin on 295 kilometre road

All is set for construction work to begin on the 295-kilometre eastern corridor highway to link the southern sector of the country to the north through the Volta Region. We have reached a high level, finished all paper work and I can now firmly say we are ready to construct this road, Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, has said. Mr. Amenowode, who was on a tour of the northern sector of the region, said governments commitment to the project had moved from a promise to actual work which would soon be seen on the ground. He said many contractors would be involved to ensure fast and effective work in the shortest possible time especially as many development partners had shown interest in it. Mr. Joseph Nicab, the Nkwanta South District Chief Executive, said the road would promote trade between Ghana and Burkina Faso. People in the Volta Region especially those in the northern sector have been yearning to see the transformation of that stretch of road from its current bad and unreliable nature into an all-weather road. Foodstuffs including yams and cereals get locked up in that area because of the bad nature of the road especially during the rainy season.
