Comeille Nangaa Yebeluo, Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and leader of a 21-member delegation that visited Ghana to learn best practices in polls management, has lauded journalists for effectively covering elections since 1992.
Addressing journalists at MJ Grand Hotel, East Legon, Accra on Wednesday, Mr Nangaa Yebeluo indicated that his team chose Ghana because it’s a model in upholding democracy.
The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) hosted the delegation that arrived early this week which comprise heads of Faith Based organizations and Accountability and Integrity groups.
“Listening to your respective inputs this evening tells everything that you have really played your role as watchdog of the people’s interests,” he stated.
“DRC is about to go to the polls in December 2018 which makes it very imperative to learn from Ghana’s best practices on this topic.
“We have learnt a lot from this evening encounter but more importantly, I am taking home four experiences as my guiding principles, these are to be transparent in all that is to be done, show commitment, establish strong media relations and adopt an open communication strategy,” he stated.
Ken Asigbe, former Graphic Communications chief, who led the media interactions, said various media houses and other institutions prepare effectively to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
He urged the team to exercise circumspection in dealing with people, especially political parties, who according to him, can frustrate their efforts.
Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong expressed happiness in hosting the delegation.
He disclosed that the delegation has visited various institutions and persons such as former presidents of Ghana.
