Robbery Attacks: Ghana Remains A Peaceful Nation In The Sub Region-Hamid

Ghana remains a peaceful nation in the West African sub-region despite recent attacks at Kwabenaya Police Station by seven suspected criminals leading to the killing of an officer on duty and similar ones in other parts of the country.

“Ghana has become a haven of stability and a place where many of our neighbors are now running to for safety”, according to Mustapha Hamid, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Information.

“If you go to our universities these days you find students from Nigeria, Serria Leone, Liberia and you asked them they say that it is peaceful here”, he stated

“Recently I went with the President to Nigeria and I had a friend come and see me at a hotel at 8 pm he said, my brother, I have to go home. It is dangerous to be on the street after 8 pm”, the Information Minister gave the accounts on Joy FM’s Newsfile.

But a security expert with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has warned there will be more attacks on security personnel unless Ghana’s security strategy is reformed.

Dr Kwesi Aning explained the current security structure is vulnerable in the face of the changing security situation in the country.

The KAIPTC Faculty of Academic Affairs and Research Director was reacting to a dawn cell break at the Kwabenya District Police station that saw the escape of seven hardened criminal

The armed robbers set the escapees who were in cells at the Police District Headquarters free after shooting a supervising officer on duty.
