Indian Man Charged With Indecent Assault

Sai Yeluri, a 28 year-old Indian, has been granted 40,000 cedis bail, with two sureties, by the Tarkwa Circuit court for indecently assaulting a two-year-old girl at Nsuta in the Western Region.

The accused who is a staff of Ghana Manganese Company at Nsuta was alleged to have sexually abused the victim after offering to teach her how to swim.

He pleaded guilty with explanation to the offense, and would make his next appearance in court on Wednesday January 31.

The judge, Mr Emmanuel Bart Plange-Brew has ordered Sai to hand over his passport to the court to ensure that he does not leave the country while the case was pending.

Police Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman told the court that, the victim's mother, Francisca Mensah, who is the complainant and businesswoman resides at Tamso, a suburb of Tarkwa with the accused.

She said on January 1, at about 1500 hours, the complainant went to Nsuta pool side with the victim to have fun.

Inspector Anaman said whilst Sai and his friend Karthik were there enjoying themselves when they came for the victim and another girl claiming they wanted to teach them how to swim.

The Prosecution said while the accused and his friend were swimming in the pool with the girls, Francisca decided to video them and later went for the victim and returned home.

Inspector Anaman said the next day when the complainant watched the video she realized that Sai had inserted his finger into the victim's vagina.

She said Francisca lodged a complaint at the Nsuta Police Station where a medical form was issued to her on behalf of the victim to seek medical attention.

She explained that Dr. Joseph Darko of Apinto Government Hospital endorsed the medical form and the complainant returned it to the police on the same day.

Inspector Anaman said all efforts made by the police to download the video from the complainant's phone failed.

The Prosecution said on January 5 accused person was arrested but he denied the offense.
