Chief promises to release land to Youth in Agric

Nana Mprah Besemunah III, Krachiwura, at the weekend promised to release 300 acres of land to the Youth in Agric module of the National Youth Employment Programme at Krachi. He gave the promise after Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister requested for a 20 acre land for the module when he paid a courtesy call on the Chief. Nana Besemunah said the land which is located by the lakeside is ready for cultivation and only needed pumps for irrigation purposes. "We are ready to give out any stretch of land for agriculture or development purposes, but what we need is irrigation to ensure all year farming," Nana Besemunah said. He noted that agriculture and farming in particular was the preoccupation of the people in the area, but had become seasonal due to the rainy pattern. He expressed the hope that with irrigation services, the area could produce enough foodstuffs for the nation. Nana Besemunah commended government for its policies on agriculture especially the Youth in Agric and the re-afforestation programmes and stated that the readiness of the traditional area to support and take advantage of the programmes. Mr Amenowode urged young people in the Area to develop interest in programmes such as fish farming and re-afforestation.
