Buabeng Asamoah's Stunning Confession Minutes After Amidu's Appointment As SP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has disclosed his first reaction when he heard Martin Amidu, has been nominated by President Akufo-Addo as the Special Prosecutor.

“Let me confess; on the day of the appointment, I have just walked out of a cash-for-seat sitting and spoken to the media and as I swivelled from the interview, one of the young men run to me and said Martin is the special prosecutor; it didn’t click, I was walking away and then the young man said the President had nominated Martin Amidu as the special prosecutor, what do you say? I ran away from the mic. I had to collect my thought; what has the President done? That was what I thought…” he said.

Contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM’s newsfile, Saturday, Buabeng Asamoah added that the President’s decision to nominate Martin Amidu was a ‘bold move’ and that after watching his marathon vetting, “I am convinced that only Martin Amidu can establish this office properly”

“This is the most audacious move an African president could ever make; appoint somebody of the other divide…Nana is going purely on the question of restoring trust in fighting corruption” he added.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, nominated Former Attorney General Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, by a letter dated Thursday, 11th January, 2018, exercised her power of nomination, and submitted to him, for his acceptance, the name of Martin Amidu as the proposed Special Prosecutor.

Subsequently, Mr. Amidu, on Tuesday, February 13, faced Parliament’s Appointments Committee in a marathon vetting that lasted several hours.

Parliament will consider the report of the Appointments Committee on the nomination of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.
