Chief urges people not to overburden government

Nana Gyasi Amoako Adabo II, Chief of Hwediem in the Asante Akim North Municipality, has underscored the need for communities to embark on development projects without waiting for government intervention. He said the over-reliance on government to provide basic amenities could retard development as government's responsibility to the people was enormous and required time to execute. He appealed to his people to support him in his quest to embark on development projects in the town to improve on the lives of the people. Nana Adabo said this when he addressed the people of Hwediem at a durbar to introduce him as the new chief of Hwediem. He succeeded Nana Anarfi Kokooto who died last year. Known in private life as Richard Gyasi Amoako and an employee of the Forestry Commission (FC), Nana Adabo assured the people of his commitment to facilitate accelerated development through fundraising and communal labour. He promised to use his office to revive a tree plantation project in the town to create employment opportunities for the youth as well as check the increasing rural/urban migration in search of non-existing jobs in the cities. Nana Adabo said he would collaborate with stakeholders to raise the standard of education in the area and called for the people's support to ensure the success of his reign. Mr. Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North in a speech read on his behalf, congratulated the chief and urged him to follow the foot steps of his predecessor. He commended the kingmakers for the peaceful manner they selected the late chief's successor which he said demonstrated their commitment to peace and development.
