Kwame Peprah Cited For Contempt

The Board Chairman of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and former Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Kwame Peprah, has been cited for contempt of court for directing workmen of the company to grade portions of a land, which acquisition is pending before the Appeal Court of Justice. The land in question which is at Dunkoona in the Weija Municipality in the Greater Accra Region was graded on November 21, 2009 by workmen of SSNIT, in spite of an earlier for perpetual injunction restraining SSNIT from interfering with lands in the area. The ruling was given by Justice Victor Ofoe, sitting as an additional Judge of the High Court, on Friday, July 4, 2008. Reliable information available to The New Crusading Guide revealed that even before an appeal was filed by SSNIT to be heard on December 19, 2009 at the Appeals Court, agents of Trust were busily grading portions of the lands in the area without recourse to the earlier ruling restraining the defendant (SSNIT) in the case. It is against this background that the plaintiffs in the case, Dunkoona Developers Association filed a case of contempt of court dated December 10, 2009 citing SSNIT (itself), Mr Kwame Peprah, Peter Addo, Mrs Sati Ocran and all other Board members.
