Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Emmanuel Ashong Bossoh, the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander has appealed to the general public to hand-over suspected criminal to the police for prosecution.

He said it was an offence on the part of the public to mete instance justices on suspects, and assured the public the Service would ensure speedy prosecution of suspected criminals.

DCOP Bossoh said if suspects are prosecuted on time it would make the public to have confidence in the justice delivery system.

He also assured the judiciary that the Service would address bottlenecks that slowed down prosecution.

DCOP Bossoh made the appeal in a speech read for him at the official opening of the Criminal Assizes session in Sunyani on Monday.

Criminal Assizes is the period set aside to try criminal cases such as murder, manslaughter and other serious cases often referred to as indictable offenses stipulated in Article 125 (1) and (2) of the 1992 constitution.

Jurors or Jury in a particular case made up of seven men and women of the community, who are not be lawyers or learned in the law, are charged with the responsibility of deciding whether, on the facts of a case, a person is guilty or not guilty of the offence for which he or she has been charged.

The jury must reach its verdict by considering only the evidence introduced in court and the directions of the judge.

DCOP Bossoh mentioned lack of transportation as a major setback, as the Service found it difficult to transport remand suspects to the various court for prosecution, but added that his outfit was working hard to address the problem.

He also assured the judiciary of its unwavering support for effective justice delivery in the region saying prosecutors had undergone series of training to build a robust regime for justice delivery
