GNA Board condemns beating of Reporter

The Board of Directors, Management and the entire staff of |Ghana News Agency on Wednesday condemned brutalities visited on Journalists by people believed to be sympathisers of National Democratic Congress (NDC) last Saturday at Sunyani. Mr Dennis Kwadwo Peprah of GNA was the main target of attack by a group of people at the Brong Ahafo Golden Jubilee Awards Ceremony to honour distinguished contributors to the Region's growth as part of "BA @ 50" anniversary celebrations. GNA condemned the intolerance displayed and drew attention to the fact that the GNA Reporter was a public officer performing his statutory duties when he was invited to cover a public function. It appealed to the general public to accord GNA Reporters the necessary assistance to facilitate the performance of their duties. GNA expressed the hope that the Police would expedite their investigations and put the perpetrators before court. The Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) officially invited the Agency to cover the ceremony and to receive an award for the invaluable services it had rendered to the Region since its inception. Mr Peprah was assigned to cover the ceremony and while he was seated, a man, who was standing in front of the dais when Former President Jerry John Rawlings, the guest speaker, was speaking, went and lifted him up, threw him down and beat him up. Other Journalists, who attempted to rescue Mr Peprah, were also assaulted.
