Health Services leadership commends members

The leadership of the Health Services Workers' Union (HSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has commended members for their commitment, resilience, support and maintenance of a peaceful industrial atmosphere in the year. In a Christmas and New Year message to members, Mr Abu Kuntulo, General Secretary, HSWU, urged the members to continue to work assiduously to enable the union to accomplish its future plans and also inculcate the habit of patriotism, by offering their services to the country. The message also called on the authorities at the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Teaching Hospitals to halt the growing inequities in the promotion of health staff, which currently favoured only key health professionals leaving the paramedics behind. "We will also appeal to the authorities of the GHS to revise the existing guidelines to reflect the current trends in health needs required, to promote quality health service in the country." The message also called on health authorities to follow the existing guidelines provided for annual performance appraisals of staff and also take a critical look at issues of health care provision in the country, which had caused some to refuse postings to deprived hospitals and health institutions. "We will also urge GHS and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission to effectively play their roles in the coming year to enable all stakeholders to conclude negotiations on the long awaited Collective Bargaining Agreement." The message also praised the leadership of the TUC, all sister National Unions, the National Labour Commission and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission for their cordial working relation with the HSWU for the year.
