Course on boat management ends

A two-week intensive course for 10 boat operators and managers from the National Health Insurance Authority and the Tsetsefly Eradication Unit of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture who operate on the Volta Lake ended at the Ghana Navy Trade Training School at Sekondi on Friday. Closing the course Commander Samuel Walker, Operations Officer of the Western Naval Command and the Commanding Oficer of the Sekondi Naval Base, said the course was in line with the President's vision of ensuring safety of boats and seafarers on the country's inland waters. He said the course was to equip the participants with knowledge and effective methods of boat management and handling to reduce the spate of accidents and lose of lives on the Volta Lake. Commander Walker said the participants were now in a better position to meet the challenges on the Volta Lake and should be prepared to contribute towards the proper and effective management of transport on the Lake. He appealed to companies operating on the Volta Lake and other water bodies in the country to take a queue from the training course and ensure that their operators are adequately educated on proper boat management and handling.
