Assemblies Of God Church Praises Akufo-Addo

The General Council of the Assemblies of God Church has commended President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his “stellar performance” as President of the Republic.

“We are very much enthused about how you are running the affairs of the nation, we are very proud of you. We have already seen the results, the drop in inflation and so many others, not to mention Free SHS, the flagship programme. We love you, we are in support of you, we are praying for you and we wish you good success,” the church stated.

The Council said: “We are here to officially congratulate you upon assumption of office, however late, and to also tell you that as a church we acknowledge your leadership as the President of the nation, and call on every church to submit and support you, and we are saying that Assemblies of God Church will not only pray for you but we will support all the things that you intend to do for the betterment of Ghana.”

These statements were made on Friday, 13th April, 2018, when the leadership and members of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Church paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra.

According to them, in spite of the deep partisan polarization of society, that makes it difficult for the Church to comment on certain issues, “We are happy to say President Akufo-Addo’s barely 15 months’ work as President deserves unanimous commendation.”

Delivering his remarks on behalf of the Council and the Church, leader of the delegation, Reverend Dr. Frimpong-Manso, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church said, “In Ghana when the government is not good and you commend them, they say you are political, when they doing something which is not and you criticize, they say you are in opposition, so sometimes it becomes difficult for the church to comment on certain issues but on certain issues too, you just have to say it”.

Touching on the Ghana-US Defense Corporation, Dr. Frimpong-Manso said, “I was in the country when all the debate came from here and there and I’ve been watching and hearing and I want to commend the President on the way you presented yourself the maturity, and the clarity, and the way you explained yourself to Ghanaians, I think is well noted and for many of us, we are satisfied with the explanation and we will keep praying for you that the Lord will give you the patience and wisdom to continue that way.”

“We also take this opportunity to thank you as a church, even before you became President I remember when we the leaders were being installed at Liberty Assemblies of God Church, you were there, this is a gesture we cannot overlook,” he stressed.

Recounting the President’s benevolence in their time of need, he said “On June 3, 2015, when we suffered massive flooding, and our situation very terrible, you had to cut short your trip outside to come assess the extent of damage, solidarise with us and give us some words of encouragement.”

President Akufo-Addo, on his part, welcomed the delegation to seat of the Presidency and commended the Assemblies of God Church for the significant role they are playing in the country.

He said, “the church in all times must be the beacon for the society, about what is required to be a full human being; humility, sincerity, integrity, the example that you set as Christian leaders has to be the example that the rest of us must follow, so to have that example compromised is something that is disturbing, and I believe that the reason why your church is so popular and has the rank and file of citizens patronizing it is the sense of sincerity and integrity of your followership and the devotion that you have brought to bear in disseminating the message of Christ.”

“I can only encourage you to continue, it’s in the interest of Ghana that we have men like you choosing this very difficult path as ministers of God, servants of the faith, and one has to be aware of the sacrifices that go with it” he noted.
