Second lady supports orphanages

The wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, has presented assorted items and money to six orphan homes across the country. The beneficiary homes include the Let Kids Smile Orphanage at Nkoranza, Bethesda Orphanage, Frankmay Home, Afaani Children's Home, the Tamale Children's Home and Osu Children's Home. Items presented to the homes include mosquito nets, bags of rice and sugar, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of tin tomatoes, assorted biscuits, sweets and soft drinks, boxes of spaghetti and footballs. Presenting the items on behalf of her non-governmental organisation, Alternative Source of Income Programme (ASOIP), Mrs. Mahama asked the children to respect their 'home' mothers and work hard in school. She observed that orphanages across the country need to be commended and supported because of the invaluable service they provide to the less fortunate in society. At the Osu Children's Home in Accra, the Second Lady also presented the staff of the Home with wax prints in recognition of the care and services they provide the young ones. The Head Mother of the Home and her staff were very elated, explaining that it was the first time a donor remembered they the staff by making a specific donation to them. Mrs. Mahama noted that ASOIP is committed to helping underprivileged children and women especially in the deprived areas of the country. She announced that ASOIP will be catering for the health needs of orphanages and the underprivileged. The Second Lady has already visited various parts of the country to assess the state of orphanages there and also to identify their needs.
