Prof. Adei Sues GIMPA Again

Prof. Stephen Adei, the immediate past Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has sued the institution. Prof. Adei wants GIMPA to maintain the security being provided and the one househelp in his house. In addition, he is against GIMPA deducting at source, from his entitlements, the 95 days accumulated leave which was commuted to cash. He also wants his car to be given to him free, not to be sold to him, as GIMPA wants. He stated that he will suffer great hardship and inconvenience if GIMPA is allowed to deny him security. Below is a letter dated September 8, 2009 signed by the Chairperson of the GIMPA Council, Dr. Christian Amoako Nuama: Dear Sir, Council Decisions Regarding Your Retirement Benefits The Council has reviewed the benefits received by you upon your retirement from the post of Rector of the Institute in December, 2008. Upon careful consideration, the Council has decided as follows: a. Sabbatical Leave That under normal circumstance, sabbatical leave is not granted to retiring senior members. However, considering the service rendered by yourself as the first Rector of the Institute following its establishment as a tertiary institution (University), an exceptional award of six months paid sabbatical leave tenable in Ghana shall be granted to you. b. Security and Servant (House-help) That the Security and Servant (House-help) provided to you as a retired Rector by the Institute shall be granted for a period of two months, to end on October 31, 2009. c. Mercedes Benz Saloon Car That the official Mercedes Benz Saloon Car which was assigned to you should be submitted to the officially authorized State Valuer (Intercity Transport Company) for valuation as required by government regulations as at the time of your retirement. You may then pay the valuation amount to the Institute to regularize the assignment of the car to you. d. Vacation of Official Residence That the requirement for the Rector to vacate his official residence within 90 days upon retirement is affirmed. e. Communication of Accumulated Leave Days Of Cash That the commutation of 95 days of your accumulated leave days to cash was against policy and irregular. The Council expects that the decisions specified above will bring closure to the disputes between yourself and the new administration at the Institute. Your kind co-operation in this matter would be highly appreciated.
