Nii Commey Adams, a well-known activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at OLA, a suburb of Cape Coast, has profusely denied rumours about his alleged criminal conviction.
He described that as completely false - an evil agenda to tarnish his image and served notice to take legal action against those behind it.
He had been accused by a Muslim chief in Saltpond, Alhaji Ahmed Ben Mahmood, of swindling him of his cash of GH¢15,000.00 under the pretext of securing him a Toyota Highlander vehicle and was put before a Cape Coast Circuit Court to answer the charge of defrauding by false pretence.
Adams unhappy with the proceedings in the course of the trial filed an action at the Accra High Court - Human Rights Division for an order to restrain the Circuit Court from hearing the matter until the final determination of the new suit and this was granted.
After five months of hearing, the High Court, presided over by Justice Kofi Essel Mensah, ruled on June 26, 2014, there was incontrovertible evidence to show that Adams did not promise to deliver the said vehicle to Alhaji Mahmood. He had only introduced one George, then working with the Confiscated Assets Committee, to Amanor, the errand boy of Alhaji Mahmood, and he in turn told his boss that George could help him buy an auctioned car.
Justice Mensah in his judgment said he was unable to see that Adams intended to defraud the Alhaji because, all along Mahmood dealt with George.
"Adams played a good Samaritan role which turned bad because of the conduct of George."
The Court held that the facts could not sustain a charge of false pretence and went ahead to quash the proceedings at the Cape Coast Circuit Court.
Mr. Gustav Addington, the lawyer, who represented Adams, in a letter to the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, said his client felt strongly about the conduct of some of the party members, using social media platforms - WhatsApp and others to spread unfounded rumours and misrepresent facts about the case.
He had been cleared of any wrong doing and would not hesitate to bring legal action against any party member, out there to drag his name through the mud.
This comes amid intense jostling and political shadow-boxing by people aspiring for various positions in the party.
