48 babies delivered on Christmas day in Kumasi

Forty-eight babies were delivered on Christmas day in the various Government hospitals in the Kumasi Metropolis. Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) recorded the highest number of babies, 23, comprising 12 females and 11 males. Miss Grace Owusu and Mrs Eleanor Hennor Midwifery and Principal midwifery Officers on duty at the Labour and Official Wards respectively, said all the babies were in good conditions of health. They said majority of the babies and their mothers have been discharged. Eight babies were delivered at the Suntreso Hospital, six females and two males. Two of the females were delivered through Caesarean cases. Mrs Hanna Butler and Miss Elizabeth Appiah, both Midwives on duty told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all the babies were doing well. They should breast feed them for six months and try to attend post natal clinics, they advised. Tafo Hospital recorded six births, comprising four males and two females. Mrs Augustina Frempong, Staff Senior Midwife at the maternity ward said all the babies are in good condition and that five of them have been discharged. She said one of the females delivered in a Cesarean Section is still on admission. Four babies each were delivered at the Manhyia District and the Kumasi South Hospitals. Manhyia had three females and a male while Kumasi South recorded four males and no female. Miss Victoria Darko, a Midwifery Officer on duty at the Manhyia Hospital said the babies were in good stable conditions. KNUST Hospital recorded three births, two males and a female.
