Lartey emerges GAABA's best at Awards Night

Boxing prodigy, Jessy Lartey of Fit Square Gym was adjudged the "Best Boxer of the Year" by the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) at its Awards Night held over the weekend. Lartey, a 16 year pupil of the Apenkwa Junior High School was deservingly rewarded for his sterling performance exhibited during championships organized by the regional body this year. The awards night, the second of its kind organized by GAABA was to reward boxers, coaches and officials who performed creditably. Lartey's coach, Amidu Tampori was also named the 'Best Coach' of the season. Other award winners were Nana Ato Fynn - Best Referee, Mathias Sulley (Square Deal Gym) - Most Dedicated Boxer, Sena Agbeko (Bridge Boxing Club) - Most Disciplined Boxer, Anani Kutsoke (Reformers) - Discovery of the Year and Promising Boxer of the Year - Christian Dotse (Zoom Zoom Club). Three Gyms namely Akotoku Academy, Bridge Boxing Club and Square Deal Gym were also honoured for their unrivalled dedication to the Association's programmes during the year. Each of the award winners was presented with a Christmas gift pack, a trophy and a certificate. Gideon Quartey, Acting Chairman of GAABA said his outfit has lined up series of programmes for next year which are aimed at putting the boxers in the best of shapes. He therefore appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support the Association's activities to produce worthy boxing champions. The awards night was heralded by a special contest involving boxers from participating gyms to officially sign off for the year.
