Kennedy Agyapong Refuses To Sit By Muntaka At Disciplinary Committee

Maverick Politician Kennedy Agyapong has appeared before the disciplinary committee of  Parliament over his attacks on the Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu.

It comes after he refused to show up a fortnight ago when he was invited  by the Joe Osei Owusu-led committee.

Mr. Agyapong is accused of making disparaging remarks against parliament and Mr. Mensah-Bonsu, describing the House as “useless” for having the MP for Suame as its leader.

He may be sanctioned based on the outcome of the probe by the Privileges Committee. A prima facie case was established against the maverick MP after opposition MP Muntaka Mubarak reported him to the House.

Mr. Agyapong who appeared with his lawyers, KT Hammond and Alexander Afenyo-Markin, also members of the House, refused to sit by the complainant as was arranged by the committee.

The lawyers of the accused MP argued among other things that some members of the committee had prejudiced themselves by commenting on the matter through interviews with journalists ahead of the hearing.

They also presented a letter indicating that members of the committee from the Central region intend to recuse themselves from the hearing due to their relationship with the accused.

The MPs are Naana Ayiah, Cynthia Morrison and Samuel Nsowa-Djan

The chairman after properly being served with the letter suspended hearing for the request to be considered.
