Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, says the Akufo-Addo led administration used procurement violations as a cover-up to dismiss Madam Charlotte Osei from office.

Charlotte Osei was found to have breached procurement laws in the award of several contracts at the Electoral Commission.

A report by the Chief Justice's Committee; set to investigate complaints against three top officials of the EC (Charlotte Osei, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amakwah), indicated that the EC Chairperson breached procurement laws in the award of several contracts, prior to the 2016 elections. This led to her removal from office.
 
But Allotey Jacobs believes otherwise.

To him, the ruling government did not want Madam Osei as the EC chairperson while in opposition, and thus consider the procurement related issues as an opportune time to kick her out, since there are several other government officials who have also violated procurement laws but are still at post.

“The NPP while in opposition said all sorts of things about Charlotte Osei…now they have removed her from office…I describe the removal as kaakaamotobi concert. The removal of Charlotte Osei has been done in a bad faith…there some people who have engaged in procurement violations….and they are still in office. But because it is Charlotte Osei she has been removed…” he stated while contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Wednesday.
